Please
note that you can join this tour in Madrid.
- DAY 1, Fri. – POINT OF
ORIGIN-MADRID. The coach will pick you up from your
designated pick up point and take us on to Madrid. Arrival in Madrid Late
afternoon. Check in to hotel in central Madrid. Time to enjoy Madrid at your
leisure or join in on a walk to the Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol and Royal
Palaces. Dinner at the hotel.

- DAY 2,
Sat. – MADRID-TORDESILLAS-LEON
Departure after
breakfast. Today our destination is Leon. We
are going to make a short stop on the way at Tordesillas where you will have
time to visit the Monastery where Juana “La Loca”, daughter of the Catholic
Monarchs and Mother of Charles 1 (V), lived as a recluse for most of her life.
Arrival in Leon early afternoon. Check
in. Afternoon visit of Leon, including a visit to the Real Colegiata de San
Isidoro (entrance ticket included), Pantheon of the early Kings of Spain and
with some incredible Romanesque frescos which have, quite rightly so, earned it
the name of “Romanesque Sistine Chapel”. Dinner at the hotel.

DAY 3, Sun. – LEON-ASTORGA-SARRIA
Departure after breakfast. Our route now takes us along the “French
Route of the St. James Way”. Although of course we are still using our
transportation to get to the starting point of our walk.
One of the most important towns on the French Route is the town of
Astorga. We are going to make a
short stop here where you will have time to visit the Museum of the Camino that
is situated in the incredible Bishops Palace that was designed and built by
Antonio Gaudi. Arrival in Sarria and check in to our hotel.
Free time for lunch. Afternoon
excursion to the Monastery of Samos (entrance ticket included). Early evening
informal talk of our walk. Dinner
at the hotel.
- DAY 4, Mon. –
SARRIA-PORTOMARIN (EXCURSION TO LUGO)
- Walking distance 23.5
KM/14.5 miles.
- Today we start our 115 KM walk to Santiago
taking in the sites of the small country churches, oak and chestnut groves
and farm life along the way. Upon
arrival in Portomarin, we will visit
the Church of San Juan, which was
moved stone by stone from its original location down in the river valley.
This afternoon a visit the city of Lugo.
Dinner at the hotel.

- DAY 5, Tue. – PORTOMARIN-PALAIS DE REI (EXCURSION CASTILLO
DE PAMBRE)
- Walking distance 24.5 km/15.2 miles.
- Today’s hilly walk continues through field and forest filled with
countless examples of Galician vernacular architecture – wayside crosses,
granaries, and medieval bridges. An
afternoon excursion to the Castillo de
Pambre, one of the few intact 15th century castles in Galicia.
Dinner at the hotel.
- DAY 6, Wed. – PALAIS DE REI-ARZUA (EXCURSION PORTODEMOUROS
RESERVOIR)
- Walking distance 26 KM/16.2 miles.
- This morning
we will walk to the small bustling town of Melide
where you can visit the small Ethnographic
Museum. We continue on to the
small medieval pilgrims’ hospital and bridge
spanning the Río Iso where we will
take the bus to Arzúa.
Afternoon excursion to the Portodemouros
Reservoir and a visit the Museo de
Mel (Honey Museum) (Entrance ticket
included) Dinner at the hotel.

- DAY 7,
Thur. – ARZUA-ARCA (EXCURSION TO MONASTERY OF SOBRADO)
- Walking distance 22
KM/13.6 miles.
- After today’s walk we will visit the Monastery of Sobrado (entrance
ticket included), founded in
the 10th century and which continues to be active today. Dinner at
the hotel.

- DAY 8, Fri. – ARCA-SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA
- Walking distance 21.5 KM/13.3 miles.
- During
this, the final stage of our journey, we will continue our walk
into Santiago as so many pilgrims
before us have done.
We will stop and reflect on the Monte
del Gozo (Mount Joy) from which the spires of the Cathedral
can be seen. Dinner at the
hotel.
- DAY 9,
Sat. – SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA Today we will be free to explore Santiago
de Compostela. We will attend
the Pilgrims’ Mass where, if we are lucky, we will see the Botafumeiro,
a 4 foot incense burner that is swung across the cathedral.
In the medieval days, the incense was burned to mask the smell of the
pilgrims in the church. We will also go to the Pilgrim’s
Office where we will turn in our Pilgrim’s
Passport in exchange for our Compostela
Certificates. Dinner
in Santiago.

- DAY 10, Sun. –
SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA-MADRID-MALAGA Departure after
breakfast. Lunch and numerous
comfort stops. Arrival in Malaga
approx 23.00h.

those travelling from Nerja we will put transfers on from there for you but the
price depends on how many need to come from Nerja and surroundings.
Max will be 30 euros per person each way.
